In a world where there are often more negative stories than positive ones, it was so refreshing to meet Emma (left) and her family last week. Emma and her sister and parents brought in a large amount of Christmas sacks filled with Christmas presents. When asked what she would like for Christmas, Emma asked if she could earn money by doing chores and other work to buy Christmas presents for children who would not be getting many or maybe any presents. Emma is 10 and when they were picking out the presents, she made sure to tell other people around her that the presents weren’t for her. She didn’t want them to think she was “spoiled”. Ironically, I had just been at a home visit the night before and the Mother was so worried as she did not have any extra money to buy presents for her children. I love this time of year. We have so many generous people who donate time, money and presents for the children and families we serve at Life Stories. This donation however touched my heart as well. To meet this young girl with a big smile and an even bigger heart, knowing that her sacrifice would make a difference for our less fortunate children warmed my heart.
