Meet Our CASAS : Amber Denzel
Amber discusses below reasons for becoming a CASA Volunteer, and what motivates her as a CASA Volunteer.
1) Why did you decide to become a CASA?
I decided to become a CASA because I love my community. I went to a CASA event 11 years ago and realized neglect and abuse against children was a big problem, not just here in Weld County, but everywhere. I couldn’t ignore what I learned and wanted to do whatever I could to make a difference.
2) What do you like best about being a CASA?
What I love about being a CASA is the time I get to spend with these wonderful kids! I am always amazed by the resilience and love they have for life, even though they have had so many obstacles to overcome. Often I think they enrich my life more than I do with them!
3) How many CASA cases have you had? 6
4) Tell us one of your most meaningful experiences as a CASA?
Each case has been meaningful, however my first case was particularly important. My case was a baby boy. I thought it would be an easy case, but it was really complex and challenging. It was a life changer at the end of the case when I realized my part in the outcome made such a difference in what could have happened had I not been involved.
5) What has being a CASA taught you?
Being a CASA has given me SO much! Other than teaching me more about our community and our judicial system, I have more empathy toward others, patience for process, and faith that individuals can make a difference with a passion and focusing on the needs of others.
6) What keeps you motivated as a CASA.
My motivation to continue as a CASA is each child that has been in my life. They are not just cases to me, they are each blessings that I am forever grateful for and I always look forward to the next blessing!
