How long have you been on the Life Stories Board?
Approximately 5 Years

What initially drew you to Life Stories Child & Family Advocacy, and why did you decide to join the board?
Knowledge of the organization from my role as a detective working special victim’s crimes.

What role do you believe Life Stories plays in our community, and why is that important to you?
I have personally seen Life Stories provide advocacy to children as well as a comfortable environment to tell their story. I had one victim who came to Life Stories when she was a child to be interviewed and I ended up working with her after she was in her mid 20’s. She got emotional as she recalled the teddy bear and juice box with chips she received at the center and said she will always remember the impact of that because of all the horror she was living with at the time as a 10 year old child. This is why it’s important to me. The most important thing we can do for a victimized child is show up, hear them and support them. This is what I do every day in my primary job and I am passionate about it! Few things in the world are as important as this. One day, these kids will run the world. Let’s give them everything we can to get them safely to that point.

“In my world, kids are sexually assaulted and abused every day. If you really let that sink in, it can be overwhelming. The way I see it, we all have two choices. Be part of the problem or part of the solution. I choose the latter. ”
